NEW to Live Auctions?

Live auctions can be a lot of fun, and include the whole family.

They can also seem a little intimidating, if you aren't familiar with how they work or how to participate.

We PROMISE we won't make you pay $5,000 for a painting you didn't mean to bid on simply because you scratched your nose at the wrong time! ;-)

Our auctioneer, Christian, paces his chant so it is fun without being too fast for you to understand and follow.

Below are a few guidelines on how live auctions work, particularly with Mountain Traders.

1) Before participating, please register to bid at the checkout. You will need a photo ID. There is no charge to register. The ladies there will give you a card with a bidder number to use while bidding.

2) There is a 10% Buyers Premium. That means an additional 10% of your high bid number will be added to the cost of the item/lot. There is also a 6% tax added to your total.

3) We recommend you come a little early to view the items, decide what you would like to bid on, and get registered. Items are NOT necessarily sold in the order of lot numbers. These numbers are for Mountain Traders reference only.

4) When bidding on an item, listen for the next bidder increments. If you bid at $10 and the auctioneer begins asking for $15, you still have it at $10 unless someone else bids. At that point, you can decide if you want to bid the next increment the auctioneer is asking for.

5) Please display your bidder number clearly while bidding.

6) The auctioneer may choose to sell a group of items for "Choice." He will announce that before starting the bidding. "Choice" means the highest bidder gets to choose how many items in the group they take for the bid amount. For example: There are 20 locally raised chickens, and the bidding is "choice." The highest bid is $20, and the highest bidder gets first choice out of the chickens. They pay $20 each for as many as they want. If they pick out 4 chickens, they pay $20x4=$80. Other bidders then have a chance to buy as many chickens as they want at that $20 each price. If there are chickens left over, the bidding starts over again.

7) When you have won items, please pay at checkout before taking them to your vehicle. You do not need to pay until you are ready to take items to your car. If you are not finished bidding but would like to put some items in your vehicle, you are welcome to pay, load your items, and return to the auction.

8) Enjoy participating in your first live auction with us!
